Motor Vehicle Documents
Driver's License
The national driver's license is recognized, but the International Driver's License (in conjunction with the national one) is strongly recommended.
Vehicle Importation
The import of a vehicle is 30 days (an extension to 90 days is possible without any problems. A Temporary Import Permit can be solved at the border. Leaving the country without a vehicle is not legally possible, because the TIP is registered in the passport.
Car insurance

Camping
-
Wild camping is not recommended due to the security situation.
-
There are many campsites with different levels of equipment.
Road network
The road network has a length of about 3,000 km. The main routes are:
-
Northern Highway: Belize City - Corozal - Mexican border;
-
Western Highway: Belize City - Belmopan - San Ignacio/Santa Elena - Guatemala border;
-
Hummingbird Highway: Belmopan - Dangriga;
-
Southern Highway: Dangriga - Punta Gorda.
Approximately 575 km of the road network is paved. Roads between major cities are mostly two-lane and in fairly good condition. Secondary roads are mostly unpaved and often impassable, especially during the rainy season. Driving at night should generally be avoided.
Gas stations: Gas stations are available in sufficient numbers along the main roads leading from Belize City to the borders with Mexico and Guatemala, and in larger towns. In rural areas, it is advisable to take advantage of refueling opportunities as they arise or to carry filled jerry cans.
Sim cards
Cell phone network is well developed. Sim cards are already available at the border for tourists.

Security
Security level varies depending on the area. Especially in Belize City, it is significantly worse than in the rest of the country.
Basically, we felt safe everywhere, even if the security situation is more difficult to assess than in Mexico, for example.
However, general precautions should be strictly observed.

WLan
WiFi is available throughout the country. However, depending on the region, it is often extremely slow. Upload of videos and photos may not be possible for days.
Spare parts
Spare parts and workshops for European and Japanese vehicles are hard to find and often have to be imported at great expense.
Cost of living
Cost of living in Belize is significantly higher than in the rest of Latin America and also in Mexico.
Miscellaneous
Payment by credit cards are not possible everywhere. Cash is still king, especially in smaller stores.
