We are Andreas and Kerstin. Two "average Austrian citizens" who at some point decided to share our passion for travel, motorcycling, camping, outdoors and quite simple: to discover the world no longer just on annual vacations, but for a longer period of time and to start a great journey of discovery.
The idea for our trip around the world was born a few years ago. For a long time, this was just a vague dream until we decided in 2019 to make it real. As "two crazy birds" we are now touring through the world.
We actually wanted to start in spring 2021, but had to postpone it for a year due to that "unforeseen event" that changed everything.
To make something that is not "usual" and despite everything we were advised from so many people with good suggestions, it influenced us and so we found our name for our online presence: ibahabs!
IBAHABS
is not a fantasy word that we came up with, but it is a term from the Carinthian dialect. We both are from Carinthia (= the southernmost federal province of Austria), and "ibahabs" means something like "cross country" or "spontaneously"/ "approximately". Also: to go a way that does not follow any well-trodden old path.
On this page we want to share our experiences, pass on our experiences and hopefully encourage other people to follow their own passions.
Our goal is to go through the world with open minds and eyes, to experience new things and to report about them impartially and maybe sometimes from a different kind of perspective.
Andreas
Not motorcycling, but camping and spending vacations in nature had been part of my life since my childhood. I discovered my new motorcycling hobby when I was in my mid-20s. I decided then to get my motorcycle license and a few weeks later I became the proud owner of a Honda Transalp 650.
The following year I went on a three-week trip just with this bike and a tent to Norway and Sweden. From this moment on, my passion for this form of travel came alive and for the first time I thought about driving around the world on a motorcycle.
In 2014 I met Kerstin in Vienna and just one year later I persuaded her to accompany me to a motorcycle meeting in Germany.
This was the beginning of our joint motorcycle trips through Europe, even if this was the one and only time we were together on one motorbike.
Kerstin
When I was at school, traveling and discovering other countries and cultures were always a big part of the schedule. Due to the fact that “mopeds” had a cult status in my youth and almost everyone drove them, it was not possible to avoid that I made my first driving experiences at this age too. The enthusiasm for motorcycles and Moto GP infected me and never really let me go.
Even later, it was always easy to win me for spontaneous vacations and trips. So nobody was wondering that I drove with Andreas to a meeting of Horizons Unlimited (meeting for motorcycle travelers from all over the world). The many nice people and also the exciting travel reports made me want to go on a real trip around the world. But not as a pillion!
I can say one thing: for driving by yourself it is no comparison to "sitting behind"! From the next tour on I drove on my own bike, because this is much more fun! Especially when you can discover the world at the same time!
